State Police say a man was struck and killed by a van Thursday afternoon in Ontario County.

It happened on County Road 7 at Martin Road in Manchester.

Troopers say that 54 year old Michael Young of Newark and 53 year old James Carmel of Manchester, were in the southbound lane of County Road 7, loading a van onto a flatbed trailer, when a mini-van also traveling in the southbound lane, came towards them. 

Young was  struck and killed; Carmel jumped out of the way. Carmel was not injured.

The driver of the van, 69 year old King Lewis of Lyons, went to Clifton Springs Hospital for treatment.  Police say they are not sure why Lewis did not take evasive action and slow down, or move into the northbound lane. The investigation is continuing.
