State Police are releasing more details about a head-on crash at the 390/590 split that caused serious injuries to two men early Friday morning, and also blocked traffic for several hours.
Troopers say that at about 1:45 a.m., they were dispatched by 911 operators for someone driving south in the northbound lanes on 590 near the Empire Boulevard exit.
Police located the vehicle near the 490-590 interchange and tried to stop the vehicle by driving behind the car and using their lights and sirens.
The driver, 38 year old Mario Carlenius of Rochester, was going south in the northbound lanes on 590 when he struck a vehicle traveling on 390 south.
The driver of the other car, 20 year old Stanislov Dutchak of Hilton was heading to work when his vehicle was struck head-on. Both men were taken to Strong with serious injuries. Both men are in guarded condition.
390-north was closed at the East Henrietta Road exit until 7:00 a.m. Police say charges are pending against the wrong-way driver.
