Ontario County Deputies say that a fire late Monday night in the Town of Canandaigua killed seven adult dogs, 12 puppies and 7 cats.
Several fire departments responded to the scene at about 11pm, after a smoke detector at the house on Goff Road alerted the homeowner, Lori Hicks. She saw smoke coming from the basement.
Hicks breeds Alaskan Malamutes at her house and was able to save seven of her dogs and two cats, and firefighters were able to save another dog from the fire.
Hicks, who is 55 years old, and 66 year old Harold Power were treated for smoke inhalation. Two Bristol firefighters also had to be treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
