(WHAM News & AP) Authorities say a nun faces grand larceny charges after about 128-thousand dollars was stolen from two western New York churches where she worked.

Orleans County District Attorney Joseph Cardone tells WHAM News Sister Mary Anne Rapp appeared in Kendall Town Court Monday night to answer to a grand larceny charge.

She entered a not guilty plea.

The  money was  allegedly stolen from Catholic churches in Holley and Kendall.

The attorney for the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo says that Sister Mary Anne was placed on administrative leave more than a year ago after an audit conducted by the diocese turned up irregularities.

Cardone says that  Rapp was not living an extravagant life, but that there are indications she may have had a gambling problem.

He also says that Rap and her lawyer have been very cooperative with the investigation.
