State Police say they are investigating an attempted abduction in Steuben County. 

They say that at about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, a male wearing a baseball cap went into an unlocked home on East Main Street in the Village of Canisteo.  They say he entered an upstairs bedroom where a 10 year old girl was sleeping and removed her from her bed. 

Troopers say the suspect then started to carry the child down the stairs, but for some reason, he left the house without the girl.  She was not injured.
