Coming off a year that saw them fire coach Lindy Ruff after a 6-10-1 start in February, traded away three veteran players including captain Jason Pominville, the upcoming season for the Buffalo Sabres is really about developing young players but more importantly, its about when will the team deal Thomas Vanek and Ryan Miller. Both are in the final years of their contracts.
The Sabres drop the puck on the regular season tonight at Detroit. The 23-man roster will feature one of the youngest rosters in the league. Head Coach Ron Rolston does have a reputation of being a teacher.
Last season many Sabres fans questioned the effort from the club on a consistent basis. Fans are looking for conistency and effort during the 82-game schedule. This season has the potential to be fun as we all watch this young talent mixed with the veteran players come together.
But lets all remember what G-M Darcy Regier said at the end of last year, there could suffering ahead for fans. Meaning there will be growing pains with the younger players which could spell a high draft pick come June.
