Fireworks at Fenway: Sunday night's game between the Yankees and Red Sox got heated in the second inning when Ryan Dempster hit Alex Rodriguez which led to the benches and bullpens clearing and the teams being warned about beanballs by plate umpire Brian O'Nora which led to manager Joe Girardi getting tossed.
Dempster appeared to take aim at A-Rod, who is appealing his 211 game suspension. Under baseball rules A-Rod is allowed play until there is a final decision period.
Dempster had hit four batters in 140 innings this season going into the game. There is no doubt he took aim at A-Rod.
A-Rod did get the last laugh when he homered off Dempster in the sixth inning. His 649th career
home run. The Yankees proceeded to score four runs in the frame enroute to a 9-6 victory
After the game, Rodriguez said he had started the process of filing a grievance against the Yankees and that it's the responsibility of the players'
union to file it formally.
A big blow for the Bills. Rookie qb E.J. Manuel underwent a procedure on his elft knee Sunday morning and will miss the rest of the preseason. Manuel's injury is a major set back. He misses the final two weeks of the preseason, loses valuable practice time and reps and we still don't know if he will be ready to play week one versus New England. Manual outplayed Kolb in Friday night's win over the Vikings. He had provided the knock out punch in winning the starting job. Manual's play has given fans excitement for the upcoming season, but now it appears Kolb will under center against the Pats by default.
