During the 2011 regular season, the Harbaughs became the only brothers to coach against each other in any NFL game (the Ravens beat the 49ers,16-6. on Thanksgiving Day that year). Now the brothers will meet again in Super Bowl 47.
The 49ers, coached by Jim Harbaugh, fell behind 17-0, trailed 24-14 at halftime, but shutout the Atlanta Falcons in the second half enroute to a 28-24 victory in the NFC Championship game.
The 49ers will be making their first appearance in the Super Bowl for 18 years and their sixth trip overall. They have never lost a Super Bowl, and with a win will tie the Pittsburgh Steelers' record of six titles. The 49ers pulled off the biggest comeback win in an NFC title game. Colin Kaepernick, who replaced Alex Smith during the season, completed 16-21, 223 yards and one touchdown and more importantly zero turnovers. Matt Ryan turned the football over twice.
Jim's older brother John led the Ravens to a 28-13 win over Tom Brady and the Pats in the AFC title game. For a second straight playoff game Joe Flacco outplayed Brady. Flacco was 21-36 and 3 touchdown passes. Meanwhile Brady mismanaged the clock late in the first half while throwing two second half picks. Brady had been 67-0 at home when leading at the intermission.
How can anyone explain the Pats and Falcons getting shutout in the second half at home.
Get ready for the Harbaugh Bowl. The 50-year-old John is 15 months older than Jim. Plus get ready for a heavy dose of Ray Lewis, who will be playing in his final game of his career.
My early thoughts have the Ravens winning 27-24.
I had a blast hosting championship Sunday in the my cave. Nothing better than spending an entire day with family and friends. The menu consisted of manwich, Sue Moriartry's mac-and-cheeese. Two Ton Tony's sheet pizza and smores pizza (epic). MM's, chicken wing dip, cape code chips, my wife's sausage bread and variety of dips and cheeses. Our best party yet.
My stomach is killing me today.
