New Jersey Devils left wing Dainius Zubrus has had surgery on his left wrist. The team announced the exploratory surgery yesterday, saying Zubrus would be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks. He's missed four games since suffering the injury against the New York Rangers.

The RIT men's hockey team goes West on I-90 to play a pair of Atlantic Hockey Association road contests at Mercyhurst on Friday and Saturday. Both games from the Mercyhurst Ice Center will get underway at 7:05 p.m. Both teams are jockeying for positioning in the bunched up AHA standings. Mercyhurst is clinging to second place with 26 points, while RIT is eighth, just six points behind the Lakers. Just four points separate the fourth and tenth place teams.

The RIT women’s hockey team plays its final two regular season home games of the 2012-13 season against College Hockey America rival Penn State on Friday and Saturday at Ritter Arena. Both games get underway at 7:05 p.m. RIT is trying to lock up home ice advantage for the first round of the CHA playoffs.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Lakers owner Jerry Buss has been hospitalized with cancer... The Times says the 79-year-old Buss has spent time in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and that several current and former Lakers players, including Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson, have visited him. Spokesmen for Buss and the Lakers declined comment.

The Buffalo Bills are continuing their purge of veteran defensive players by releasing oft-injured cornerback Terrence McGee. Having spent 10 seasons in Buffalo, McGee was among the Bills' longest-serving active players...

McGee, a 2003 fourth-round draft choice, spent a decade with the Bills. He started double-digit games from 2004 through 2009

He ended three of his past four seasons on injured reserve. Over the past three years, he has played only 22 games, starting 10.

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed on a two-year contract with quarterback Dennis Dixon, who spent the past season with the Super Bowl-champion Baltimore Ravens on their practice squad.
