A career-best four-point day from Phil Varone and a 31-save effort from goaltender David Leggio powered the Rochester Americans to a 4-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters Tuesday morning at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland. With the win, the Amerks (26-16-2-1, 55 points) remain undefeated against the Monsters this season and moves Rochester into a two-way tie with Lake Erie for second place in the American Hockey League’s North Division standings.

Alex Rodriguez will not report to spring training with the Yankees' position players and will work on his rehabilitation from hip surgery in New York. The third baseman is expected to be sidelined until at least the All-Star break following his surgery on January 16th.
With two players facing PED scrutiny as spring training begins, Yankees manager Joe Girardi says his only concern is what's happening on the field until Major League Baseball completes its investigation. Rehabbing third baseman Alex Rodriguez and catcher Francisco Cervelli have both been linked to a now defunct Miami-area clinic believed to have distributed performance-enhancing drugs. Girardi says he can't worry about possible punishment by MLB down the road.
NBA:
Lebron James is the first player in NBA history to score 30 points and shoot at least 60 percent in six straight games after finishing with 30 on 11-of-15 shooting in Miami's 117-104 win over Portland. He's hit 67 of his 92 shots and averaged 31 points during the Heat's current six-game winning streak.
Dwight Howard and Antawn Jamison each scored 19 points in the Los Angeles Lakers' 91-85 decision over Phoenix. The Lakers outscored the Suns by 12 in the fourth quarter and won despite Kobe Bryant's four points on 1-of-8 shooting.
Boston Celtics guard Leandro Barbosa will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Barbosa hurt his knee in Monday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats. An MRI yesterday revealed the injury.
