Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta was released from the hospital Wednesday, after absorbing a hard hit late in the first period of Buffalo's 4-3 loss to the Maple Leafs Tuesday in Toronto. Kaleta, who has a history of head and neck problems, was boarded by Toronto's Mike Brown. Kaleta will miss Thursday's game at Boston.

New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan will be sidelined for 10 to 14 days after hurting his shoulder in New York's victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points to set a team-record with his 30th straight 20-point game, leading the New York Knicks to a 113-97 victory over the reeling Orlando Magic last night. ...Tyson Chandler and Amare Stoudemire combined for 35 points on 17 of 18 shooting from the field against the Magic.

LeBron James had 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and the Miami Heat blew out Brooklyn in the second half for a 105-85 victory last night, their 13th in a row over the Nets. Dwyane Wade added 21 points and Chris Bosh had 16 for the Heat, who outscored the Nets 56-36 in the second half after it was tied at halftime.

Paul Pierce scored 16 points and Boston raced out to a 59-38 halftime lead in a 99-81 win over Sacramento. Kevin Garnett added 13 points

Michael Beasley scored a season-high 27 points and the Phoenix Suns closed on a 27-8 run to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 92-86, L.A.'s eighth consecutive road loss. Syracuse and St. John's, whose three-decade relationship as original members of the Big East Conference will end next season, will keep the 100-year rivalry going for at least the next two seasons... The schools announced Wednesday that a game will be played at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 14, 2013, and they will meet again at the Carrier Dome at a date to be determined in 2014-15.

The Feb. 10 meeting at the Carrier Dome will be the 87th in a series that dates to 1912. The Orange hold a 49-37 edge in the series and have won seven straight

The Baltimore Ravens say a report linking linebacker Ray Lewis to performance-enhancing drugs won't be a distraction in their preparation for Sunday's Super Bowl against San Francisco.....An article in Sports Illustrated said Lewis sought help from a company that says its deer-antler spray and pills contain a banned product connected to human growth hormone.

Lewis on Wednesday denied ever using the drugs in his effort to return from a torn right triceps

Super Bowl 47 is certainly a family affair with Ravens head coach John Harbaugh going up against brother and 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. Father Jack, a former coach himself, says each has their own style.

Jack and wife Jackie Harbaugh are both in New Orleans this week to cheer on their sons, but neither is taking a specific side. It's the first time brothers have ever coached against one another in a major pro sports championship. John and Jim have squared off one previous time, with John's Ravens beating Jim's 49ers 16-6 during the regular season in November 2011.

Mark O'Meara says Vijay Singh should be suspended ``for a couple of months'' by the PGA Tour after he admitted he used a deer-antler spray that contains a banned substance....

Singh paid one of Sports With Alternatives To Steroids' owners $9,000 in November for the spray and other products, Sports Illustrated said. Singh released a statement on Wednesday at the Phoenix Open confirming he had taken it and was in contact with the tour.......

According to a Yankees executive who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team is not publicly commenting on Rodriguez's situation, if A-Rod doesn't play again due to a career-ending injury, about 85 percent of the $114 million he's owed by the team would be covered by insurance...THIS WEEK A-ROD been accused of again purchasing performance-enhancing drugs _ an allegation he denies.
