The RIT men’s hockey team plays a home and home series against nationally-ranked

Niagara University this weekend. The game on Friday will be played at RIT's Ritter Arena...The Tigers are tied for eighth in the AHA standings with 15 points, but are just three points out of second. Just three points separate the second and ninth place squads. Niagara leads the conference with 27 points, nine ahead of Mercyhurst and Holy Cross.

NBA:

Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points and won his rematch with Kevin Garnett as the New York Knicks ended an 11-game losing streak in Boston with an 89-86 victory over the Celtics last night. It came 17 days after a verbal clash between the All-Star forwards led to Anthony's one-game suspension following Boston's 102-96 victory in New York.

Anthony has now scored 20 or more points in 27 straight games

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has officially announced the expected hirings of Marty Mornhinweg as his offensive coordinator and Dennis Thurman as the team's defensive coordinator. Ryan also announced yesterday that David Lee has been hired as the team's quarterbacks coach, replacing Matt Cavanaugh, and Tim McDonald will be the Jets' defensive backs coach.

GOLF:

MLB:

Pedro Martinez is back with Boston. The three-time Cy Young Award winner and eight-time All-Star spent seven seasons with the Red Sox. The Sox say Martinez will now serve as a special assistant to general manager Ben Cherington.

The event is expected to be a big boon to the region with events on both sides of the Hudson River. Both teams will be staying in New Jersey hotels near MetLife Stadium and they will practice at facilities in New Jersey. The Meadowlands Racetrack will host the NFL's pre-game tailgate party. Super Bowl 48 is in February 2014.
