The Average Woman Expects $480 Worth of Christmas Presents

Bad news:  You haven't spent enough on your wife or girlfriend's Christmas presents.  Time to get out shopping again.

According to a new survey, the average woman is expecting $480 worth of presents this year.

But that's just the average.  If you want to figure out EXACTLY what your wife or girlfriend is expecting, the people running the survey came up with a rough formula you can use to figure out exactly what her expectations are.

Basically . . . it's 1% of your annual salary.  So if you make $60,000 a year, she's probably expecting $600 in gifts.  If you make $100,000, she's expecting $1,000.

Men's expectations are much lower.  The average man expects presents that cost about $320 total.

To figure out your husband or boyfriend's expectations, the rough formula for what men expect is 0.7% of your annual salary.  So if you make $60,000, he's expecting about $420 in presents.

Caring Congress takes time out to cut word 'lunatic' from federal law

Never mind the fiscal cliff — Congress has more important matters to attend to. Such as? Making sure the word "lunatic" is excised from federal law so as not to "contribute to the stigmatization of mental health conditions." The U.S. House of Representatives approved the 21st Century Language Act, which allows the word "idiot" to remain, on Wednesday, 398-1.

The lunatic who voted against it? Texas Republican Louie Gohmert, who said, "Not only should we not eliminate the word 'lunatic' from federal law when the most pressing issue of the day is saving our country from bankruptcy, we should use the word to describe the people who want to continue with business as usual in Washington." Actually, that doesn't sound idiotic at all.

Alleged burglar freaks out and dials 911 when homeowner pulls a gun

The burglary rule book is pretty straightforward: It's the wronged homeowner who gets to call the cops. And James Gerow did after waking up to find a man in his Springtown, Texas, home, ordering his wife to dial 911 after first tracking the robber to his truck.

But Christopher Lance Moore, the alleged burglar, also called police to report that "I'm out in the country somewhere and some guy's got a gun on me." Moore had told Gerow he was just "unlucky" in picking his house to break into, but there's more than bad luck involved in torpedoing this guy's criminal career.
