KATY PERRY: Woman of the Year
2012 was the year of Katy Perry, according to Billboard, which has named her its Woman of the Year. She was honored with a gala in New York City.
The California Gurl told the industry publication, "I was very honored. I was also a bit surprised, because I thought my year was over, especially with the tour ending last year. But it's nice to see that it's been extended. I really appreciate it. I like to be viewed as a strong woman, and I think that's what Billboard is basically saying."
Previous winners of the award, which is given out annually, include Fergie, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
