RPD: Suspect Shot by Officer, Seriously Wounded

UPDATE: A man is in serious condition after he was shot in a struggle with a Rochester police officer.

Police say it happened last night after the man was seen fleeing in a pickup truck from a spot on Seventh Street where shots were fired.

The truck crashed on First Street, and that's where Police Chief David Smith says the man was shot in the struggle with the officer.

The man is expected to survive.

Police say he has a conviction record and was wanted on a recent warrant .

The officer was hurt in the struggle but is out of the hospital.

Rochester police say a suspect was seriously wounded when he was shot by an officer.

They say they saw a pickup speed away from Seventh Street, while responding to a ShotSpotter activation.

The man then crashed the truck into a pole at First and Hempel streets and took off running.

Police say one officer fired a single shot at the suspect on First Street, striking him in the upper body.

The man is expected to survive, and officer was not hurt.
