A Rochester man who admitted to killing his estranged wife and setting his house on fire will serve at least 26 years in prison.
50-year-old Juan Rivera pleaded guilty in May to 1st-degree manslaughter and arson.
He was sentenced to 25 years for the manslaughter, plus 1 to 3 years for the arson, to be served consecutively.
Prosecutors say Rivera stabbed 35-year-old Maribel Diaz to death inside her vehicle on Suntru Street in June of last year.
He then set fire to his McNaughton Street home as officers arrived to arrest him, kiilling several pets.
But at his at his sentencing hearing yesterday, he claimed police set fire to his McNaughton Street home, prompting a one-day delay.
