Zeldin Turns Down Bid for RNC Chair

Former candidate for governor Lee Zeldin says he won't be a candidate for chair of the Republican National Committee.

In a statement this morning, Zeldin says the re-election of current chair Ronna McDaniel is "pre-baked," despite what he says were disappointing results of every election during her tenure.

He says change is needed, and McDaniel's greatest service to the party would be to step aside.

Zeldin is completing his final term as a member of Congress from Long Island and lost the race for governor last month.
