State Lawmakers are Hearing Ideas on Reducing Gun Violence.

State lawmakers are hearing ideas on reducing gun violence.

One suggestion is the activation of the Ammunition DataBase, which would track ammo purchases in the state. It was created under the SAFE Act eight years ago but is still not operating.

At a hearing yesterday, the head of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, Rebecca Fisher, said the database would allow for state police and any dealer to run a background check on any ammunition sale.

Law enforcement officials also spoke in support of the database, but also said other things need to be done to address gun violence.
