5 Shootings, 2 Fatal in Rochester

The City of Rochester was awash in gunfire Saturday and overnight Sunday. Two people were killed and three wounded as a result.

Rochester police say a 42-year-old city man was murdered late last night at the corner of Flower City Park and Primrose Street on the West Side. The victim, identified as Keegan Whitely, was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts. Police believe an unknown suspect chased Whitely down Flower City Park and shot him. No arrest has been made yet. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers.

A Rochester man in his late 30s is dead after he was shot just after 2:00 this morning in a parking lot on Monroe Avenue. The victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police say 20 or 30 people were hanging around in the parking lot when the bars closed, and that's when the shooting ocurred. Everyone ran as police arrived and no arrest has been made yet.

Three people were hit by gunfire in separate incidents in Rochester yesterday and early this morning. Police say the first was a 17-year-old shot and wounded near Emerson and Santee Streets on the West Side. The victim is recovering. Just after midnight, another 17-year-old was shot at a house party on Oneida Street and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. Finally, a 22-year-old city man was shot on Lincoln Street about an hour later, and is also being treated at Strong.
