The Monroe County Industrial Development Agency voted yesterday on a request by Amazon to waive local hiring requirements for construction of a new distribution center.
The board voted 4-3 in favor of the request.
Local unions object to the waiver request, saying Amazon should be required to hire local workers.
Amazon wants to put a $412 million warehouse on 100 acres along Manitou Road in Gates.
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce head Bob Duffy says the chamber supports this waiver request and that the economic impact of this investment will be felt for decades to come.
