Lawmakers Miss State Budget Deadline

New York State's new fiscal year begins today, but lawmakers still haven't finished the new state budget.

The sticking points include proposals to raise taxes on big businesses and higher-income New Yorkers, legalizing sports betting on mobile devices, and funding for schools.

Lawmakers and the governor's budget director have different estimates of the amount of money needed for the state's recovery from the pandemic.

Most of the budget discussions have been going on remotely, and are expected to resume today.
