The federal investigation into the state's tracking of COVID-related nursing home deaths is reportedly looking at SUNY Chancellor James Malatras.

The Albany Times Union reports Malatras helped draft the state's report that undercounted the victims.

Malatras was part of the governor's COVID-19 task force before he took over the SUNY system in August.

The Wall Street Journal last week reported that Malatras and two other Cuomo aides excluded the health department tally of deaths of nursing home residents in hospitals from the report last year.

Malatras has denied changing any figures in the report.

The Times Union says most SUNY trustees declined to comment or did not respond.
