Blinded Police Officer Suing the City of Rochester and Monroe County

Rochester Police Officer Denny Wright is filing a notice of claim against the City of Rochester and Monroe County.

13WHAM reports Wright was not advised to wait for backup when he responded to a mental health call on Peck Street in October 2019.

Keith Williams is accused of stabbing Wright in the eyes and face several times in the ensuing fracas, leaving Wright blind.

Wright is seeking compensation for his injuries.

The City of Rochester's Communications Director Justin Roj released a statement regarding the notice of claim.

“We remain grateful to Officer Denny Wright for his service and sacrifice to protect the citizens of Rochester. We continue to offer our prayers for him and his family as he continues to recover. The City Law Department will address the Notice of Claim in the appropriate manner, as it does all pending litigation.”
