ROC Airport Renamed After Frederick Douglass

The Monroe County Legislature has approved the name change to the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, in honor of the well-known abolitionist who called Rochester his home during the most productive years of his life. His descendants are applauding the move: in a statement, Fredrick Douglass Family Initiatives president Kenneth Morris says it signifies Rochester as a hub for justice and civil rights. A petition supporting the renaming gathered thousands of signatures.
