Parents Group Demands Voice in Planning to Reopen Schools

Parents who want a say in how and when schools reopen in the fall rallied this afternoon outside the Penfield Central School District offices, saying they want more transparency from the state and local school districts about how they plan to come out of the coronavirus shutdown which began in March.

The ROC For Educational Freedom group wants to be involved in whatever planning process is taking place for September, and will not simply accept what is deemed acceptable for their children.

Founder Christina Higley used a bullhorn to speak with the crowd, saying she feels obligated to speak out and won't stop trying to be heard until "our schools are open."

Higley says parents have no clue right now if schools will even open in the fall, if they'll continue with distance learning or use a combination of both.
