Consumer Beware: Potential RGE, NYSEG Phone Scam

NYSEG and RG&E are warning customers of a potential scam that’s been going around.

The energy companies say they have received reports of customers getting calls from people who claim to be “consultants” of the companies, some with a corresponding forged caller ID.

Some customers have also reported getting calls threatening to cut service unless an immediate payment is made over the phone.

You are urged to not give out any personal or account information to unsolicited callers.

NYSEG and RG&E say they will never call customers for payment if the account is in good standing.
