RPD Punched During Arrest on Southwest Side of Rochester

Rochester police say an officer was punched while making an arrest on the city's southwest side. It began last night on Champlain Street, at Jefferson Avenue, when police spotted a man wanted on a warrant.

Police Captain Frank Umbrino says the man ran, and officers heard what sounded like a gunshot.

As the man was being arrested, a crowd gathered and police say another man hit the officer in the head.

The officer is expected to be OK. The first suspect is facing charges in the warrant, and the second is charged with assaulting an officer.
