State Parole Board Denies Parole for Joyce Mitchell

The state parole board has again denied parole for the woman who helped two convicted killers break out of a prison in northern New York.

It is the third time that parole has been denied for Joyce Mitchell.

She is serving 2 and one-third to 7 years for assisting the escape four years ago.

She was a seamstress at the Clinton Correctional Facility and supplied tools used in the escape by inmates Richard Matt and David Sweat. Matt was killed while on the run, and Sweat was recaptured.
