Body Cam Footage Shows How Police Handled Assemblyman's Car Crash

Police body camera footage from last week shows how Rochester police responded to a car crash involving State Assemblyman David Gantt.

The officers can be heard calling a supervisor to the scene and getting medical help for the injured, who were in a van that was struck by the assemblyman's car when he ran a stop sign.

Gantt can be heard claiming he stopped for the sign. Officers then tell him witnesses say that wasn’t the case. The driver of the van says Gantt ran into her. She was later ticketed for driving without a license, and Gantt for blowing through the stop sign.

Later on in the clip you can hear the arrival of Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren. At her arrival the officer she’s speaking with turns off his camera.

Rochester Police Chief La'Ron Singletary tells 13 WHAM that's because the officer wasn't engaged in the investigation while speaking with her.

The Mayor has issued a statement saying that she considers Gantt like a father, and went to the scene to see if he was alright after being notified of the accident by his staff.
