State Ed Commissioner Dissatisfied With RCSD Response

A letter to the President of the Rochester School Board from State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia expresses "concerns" with the district's response to the "Distinguished Educator's" report that called for a complete overhaul of City School District operations.

The letter is Elia's first reaction to the district's response to Dr. Jamie Aquino's report, which Elia says was meant to help the district address its problems with low student performance. She says the district's response fails to include a coherent vision for improvement, or the district's priorities for moving forward. Elia says the RCSD needs to identify specific actions it will take to ensure the school board has a clear understanding of its role....and how it will be accountable for implementing the Distinguished Educator's report.

Once the state sends its full response, Commissioner Elia says the school district will have six weeks to work with Dr. Aquino on revising its plans.
