Feds: Rochester Man Sold Fake Gold Coins on Craigslist

A Rochester man is facing federal charges for allegedly selling counterfeit coins. Prosecutors say Timothy Meacham posted an ad on Craigslist this spring advertising the sale of two U.S. gold collector coins. He allegedly used a false name and concealed his phone number in the ad in order to hide his identity. A man from Pennsylvania responded to the ad and traveled to Rochester to buy the coins for $5,000 cash. Upon his return to Pennsylvania, the man discovered that the coins were counterfeit and contacted the Secret Service.
