Chili, NY -- Senator Charles Schumer is weighing in on the battle between a farm family in Chili and Iberdrola, the parent company of RG&E.
Schumer is calling Tuesday for the utility to consider a path for new power lines that doesn't split the Krenzer farm property and force the family out of business.
Schumer plans to say that he supports the power line project overall but that that current plan could make farming impossible on large portions of the Krenzer farm. Schumer will note that the Krenzer’s engineers have proposed alternate siting alignments that would minimize the harm.
Schumer plans to urge the New York State Public Service Commission, which recently agreed to consider to reopen the matter, to work with all parties involved to find a mutually acceptable solution.
