Rochester, NY -- Nearly a million-and-a-half million dollars in federal funding is coming to Rochester's airport for safety improvements.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter says the one-point-45 million dollar grant is coming from the U.S. Transportadion Department. It will fund an upgrade of the runway safety area. That's a cleared area at either end of an airport runway to help avoid crashes from planes landing short of the runway, or being unable to stop and running off the end of the runway.
Slaughter says they're critical to both travelers and airport workers.
