WASHINGTON – In their update to the media just after 6:15 p.m. officials involved in the investigation of the Naval Yard Shooting had little new information to report. The only new information given was that they expect the D.C. police officer injured in the shooting to recover.
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray says that they do not suspect terrorism, but it has not yet been ruled out. There are now 13 fatalities – including the shooter - in the Washington Naval Yard shooting.
Valeie Parlave, the Assistant Director of the F.B.I. Field Office in Washington, confirmed 34-year-old Aaron Alexis as the deceased shooter.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier says that the people are being told to stay in their homes and out of the area as authorities search for two other possible suspects.
The police chief says officers are searching for one other person with firearms wearing military-style uniforms. They believe the man may be connected to the shooting.
She says there is no indication of a possible motive at this time.
