Rochester, N.Y. – Beginning next month one of the largest parts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which most of us lovingly, or otherwise, refers to as “Obamacare,” is expected to roll out.
Starting October 1st, the marketplace for government health insurance plans will open for business, but like many of the things involving government, it can be dense and complicated for individuals and small business owners. That’s why Monroe county is also offering a wide array of services to help explain some of the changes in healthcare.
New York State, like every state, is offering a healthcare exchange to serve as a one-stop-shop to help people find out what they now qualify for. “You enter in all your information and it will tell you if you qualify for Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and what types of tax subsidies you qualify for, says Jennifer Byrnes the Small Business information Specialist at the Central Library. “Then what the different insurance products are that you can choose from.”
For small businesses, that qualify under Obama Care, the county is offering three separate workshops to explain to business owners with 50 or less employees how they will be impacted by Obama Care. “Business owners can choose if they want to participate in the health care exchange, Byrnes says. “If they do there are tax incentives for them and other benefits.”
The workshops, which are hosted by experts with the Rochester Business Alliance, are free and will focus on the Small Business Health Options Program.
September 10, 4 p.m. – Greece Public Library, 2 Vince Tofany Boulevard
September 12, 6 p.m. – Fairport Public Library, 1 Village Landing
September 18, 9 a.m. – Central Library, Kate Gleason Auditorium, 115 South Avenue
You can register for any of the above workshops here.
For those that need healthcare, as outlined in the individual mandate, the Monroe County Library System is also offering webinars at all of their libraries to explain the healthcare exchange and other steps individuals need to take before next year. You can contact your local library to find out the days and times they are showing them by clicking here.
